1930s home wall

I really appreciate your help with below questions.

1.if I own a 1930s style home and my wall is solid, is that same as drywall or brick wall?

I took of the wallpaper and it looks like a clay thing on the wall. no plaster board like my apartment.

2.seconds questions is , is the wall built in front of a timber ? is uk homes mainly made from timber wood?

3.if I need to run cables or create extra socket, would I need to do what is known as chase walls?

4. would all existing cabling be in a metal duct so I can user super rod to install more cables ?

many thanks

Its probably brick, drywall is the plasterboard added to it.

I took of the wallpaper and it looks like a clay thing on the wall. no plaster board like my apartment. The wall is probably plastered then.

2.seconds questions is , is the wall built in front of a timber ? is uk homes mainly made from timber wood?Unlikely to be timber if built in the 30s and an external wall.

3.if I need to run cables or create extra socket, would I need to do what is known as chase walls? Yes.

    4. would all existing cabling be in a metal duct so I can user super rod to install more cables ?Metal is not current regs, speak to an electrician.

    many thanks

many thanks, are you saying plastered over the brick? so i have two layers of brick back to back and then plaster from inside?

what do you use to run electric cables between the wall?

YouYou sure you do not have a cavity wall? Became common by 1930s.

Agree you need to chase out walls for new cables etc but.....

A word of warning. If you have taken wallpaper off, or in other locations that have paintwork, beware as if it is original paint then it will probably be lead based and the dust from it is toxic so wear a mask and vacuum up straight away, otherwise you are at risk of lead poisoning.

For the electrics for safety's sake do call in a qualified person who can do the work and certify that it meets current regulations -even where that includes original fit is satisfactory- but it is a good idea to make use of modern safety techniques too.

Adding extra sockets (depending upon your country and the regulations applicable) would need competent person to install and test and that is a legal requirement.
