OP - Please know that the supermarket staff see no distinction between the 'hoovers' as you call them, and you, a 'groupie' You're all the same, and as bad as each other in their eyes.

I am all for getting a bargain, but I won't 'jostle for position' to save a few pence on some yoghurts.

If your actual complaint is people damaging products to get a discount then thats completely irrelevant to getting food reductions and being a 'hoover'

I think the OP is trying to make the way some people gather around reduced food as it is being reduced look cool by saying there is a wrong way and a right way to do it - although the explanation of the wrong way doesn't make it any clearer.

I've been in Asda early evening and watch the assistants push out a loaded trolley of reduced bread and watch and giggle (not in a complimentary way) as its grabbed by the waiting mini mob. Feeding time at the zoo was the only thing that came to my mind (didn't notice anyone practicing a right or wrong way, just a mad grab), but there you go.

    Each to their own.

Erm the definition of groupie is -

    groupie
    ˈɡruːpi/
    nouninformal

    noun: groupie; plural noun: groupies
a young woman who regularly follows a pop group or other celebrity, especially in the hope of having a sexual relationship with them.

Not quite sure how this applies to the post the OP makes. Might be better to find a different name for the behaviour! Particularly in relation to soft fruit!

I don't care how people conduct themselves while out shopping for reductions. I myself am always polite, taking the items I actually need and are going to eat myself, leaving enough for others. I chat to people, chat to the lady marking down, and it makes for a better atmosphere.

I am not a 'hoover', or a 'groupie', as the OP puts it, and find these descriptions ridiculous. If you wade in with an attitude like that, the situation is bound to get heated.

I am always polite and I have a good relationship with store staff. I crack the jokes to relieve the tension between certain groups. However, I am sorry for expressing my views and using the terms 'groupie' (regulars) and 'hoovers' (grab everything) in describing my experience of reductons shopping.
I was quite upset at what I witnessed and wanted to share it, but thanks for teaching me not to or to be more circumspect in the language I use. :(

Don't worry about it, Mee. Lots of things get said in the heat of the moment on the forum. Different people have different emotions, some are cool calm and collected, others can go off on one at the deep end. It's all part of life. Yes, it must be shocking to see, luckily I have not seen a scrum like you describe. If I did, I would just walk away.

Why delete your first post!. I hate when people do that after they get replies because it ruins the thread and is unfair to people who haven't seen it.

I'm surprised you are happy to describe yourself as a "groupie" considering what the word is generally considered to mean!. Plus I find it amusing that there are different "groups" in a supermarket and how you describe the relationship between them!. It makes going shopping sound like a drama lol.

But what actually happened that upset you?. You didn't make it very clear in your first post. Were people opening packing in an attempt to get a discount?.

But from your description I must be a "hoover" because in December I bought 12 big tubes of Haribos for a childrens birthday paety because they were reduced from £5 to 75p each. Is that something you would consider bad ?

Actually Scavengers would be a more correct term than Groupies.
