Or you could spend a few tens of quids and get that wheel refurbished. The tyre wear is almost certainly related to driving it with the tyre underinflated.

I didn't realise that would be possible ! Off to do some research, thank you.

All that's happened is that the coat of lacquer on the inside of the wheel rim has failed, the aluminium alloy has corroded, and air is escaping - probably through corrosion and roughness on the bead, where the tyre meets the rim.

At the absolute worst, a good used wheel for your car won't be expensive.

Solved mine with a £10 tub of bead sealer, was very badly corroded though!

What makes you say the Avensis is on it's last legs?

The wheels mainly as above. Following an earlier very helpful suggestion I found a company that will dip and re-coat the wheels for £70 each, 3 need doing. I will then need 2 new tyres.

The drivers window mechanism was replaced 2 years ago (£400) I can hear it catching now again, only a matter of time until it needs doing again.

How long do I pay out for maintenance, replacements etc on a car that's worth nothing now ?

Or am I looking at it the wrong way ? Should I just keep it going until the stuff under the bonnet goes ?

I feel such a fool, I just don't know what to do ! Can't believe Im making such a fuss, but I have always been a bit of a drama queen!

It depends whether you want a new car and can afford it, or are happy to keep driving your current one. I'd get the wheels sorted and two new tyres should be around £100 if you shop around.

About the driver side window mechanism, it's difficult to know what the problem is but this may help if lubrication is the issue:
