If u had £10k, what business would u start?

Options
This is part fun, part possibility but if u had £10k spare eg inheritance or a crazy day at the horses or just old fashioned savings and wanted to start a small business - what would u go for?!

Not attempting to get guarded secrets out of anyone or come up with some amazing groundbreaking thing
- just something that will tick over nicely and contribute to bills - a holiday etc

Let's assume it'll be home based to start - £10k is hardly likely to get premises etc and also not something geographically dependent like a coastal thing but it's something my OH is thinking about

Keeping it legal so no knock-off Nigel's or cartel wannabes!!!!

It's the weekend and I'm hoping this could be fun as well as interesting!

All the best and enjoy the weekend :)

As you've already hinted yourself, no one who runs a successful business is going to give you any of the really useful answers. You will probably get a few general suggestions but none of the real nitty gritty useful info.

It's a lot of trial and error on your part or a lot of luck I'm afraid.

A £10k business may need a lot of tending if it's going to pay any bills beyond its own startup costs. And tending is only interesting if it's something you're interested in.

Start with a hobby and think what niches are unfulfilled in that hobby. For train spotting, maybe it's some kind of log book with extra information, or a kids 'I spy' version. Find a real niche that's big enough to be a market, but too small for meaningful competition, and corner the market. £10k will cover targeted advertising, getting your stuff in specialist shops, etc.

Well you start with what skills and profession you have. My company cost only a few hundred pounds to set up- you don't need anything like £10k if you have a profession or skill that is demand.

Not really, someone else posted a thread along the same lines some months ago and you will probably get the same stock replies.

I think property is probably the best thing to invest in, especially this new Kickstarter property campaign thing. I don't know if I'd invest my whole 10K in it, though. You never know with these things.

Being a partial shareholder in a property sounds like a recipe for disaster to me - liable for collective costs but without control.
