EDF meter installed incorectly

Hi, Meterman is quite correct, if it was at all dangerous it would need to have been reported by them to the DNO fault team, and there were thousands of installations like this.
I suspect the missing neutral should probably have been in the third terminal from the left on the meter which should have a blanking plug in it, the neutral cable itself is probably connected directly to the service fuse cut out box ( likely there are three cables connected at the service fuse instead of two + the earth cable) This was a practice done fairly often historically when the cables from your consumer unit were too short to reach the meter.
It is a very easy fix if this is the case ,a neutral joining box is required (£7-8)to extend the neutral cable. We used to just correct this a few years ago as good practice but most of the engineers nowadays have minimal training and are very wary of touching any metering out of the ordinary. Your electricity supply basically would not work if thier was a 'missing' cable.
It is not your problem!! Call them back and demand an experienced engineer to rectify. Cheers Davie0 -

There are 2 sets of wires
One set from the fuse box and one set from the supply coming into the house
Only 1 of the 2 wires coming into the house are in the meter. The other wire is not missing, it is in the isolator box that is just below the meter.
They have told us the electrician can break the seal and re direct the cable to the meter
This is the problem we have as we have told them they are responsible for this as they did the work wrong in the first place but they say not.
I suggest you get that in writing, signed by a director of the company.
Even then, good luck finding a reputable electrician prepared to break such a seal :cool:0 -

Helen, just a thought, if the meter is sealed then your supply was tested and passed as OK by the meter operator that last did any maintenance on your supply, this basically is your proof that the 'problem' is the supply companies not yours. If you are getting nowhere with them give them a last chance call and say you are complaining to Ofgem unless they resolve it to your satisfaction. Keep us updated, cheers Davie0
