Too many people trying to give meter readings on the wrong day for Octopus (should be Saturday).
News media stirring up mass panic is not helping.
It was Mr Lewis on ITV lol

I am due to give my normal monthly meter readings tomorrow. Hope I can get through.

Normally I receive an email reminder to take a meter reading but I haven't this month.

I got a reminder on 29th asking me to submit them, nothing in it about holding off until the 2nd.

Also they have a go tariff which gives super cheap electric at night, however for a undisclosed reason its exclusive to EV owners.  Basically a supercharged version of E7.
I don't want to upset you but Octopus has just launched a tariff which is restricted to owners of Volkswagen EVs.
They've also got an marvellous net-metering tariff for Tesla Powerwall owners who also have solar panels.

The advice to submit on the 2nd came this morning as a response to the increased load on their website and phone system. It's only relevant if you're on a variable tariff, anyway.

Just DM'd Octopus on Twitter with my readings, they replied within minutes confirming their website is struggling due to traffic because of "National Meter Reading Day" and they'd updated my account with the readings.
Seems they treat twitter as much higher priority than their email address, which to me shouldnt be happening.  Twitter is a social media platform.

(assuming your reply was human not bot).

Many companies have social media teams. It's customer service via a different channel. You might also get treated as higher priority if you phone vs email. It is best not to get offended by these differences, but instead use them to your advantage. The Octopus Twitter team are great.

I don't want to upset you but Octopus has just launched a tariff which is restricted to owners of Volkswagen EVs. The undisclosed reasons will be that there is a commercial benefit to Octopus and Volkswagen in doing this, and Octopus want to attract consumers that use a large amount of energy when supply exceeds demand. For example, my EV took 31kWh from the Grid overnight.
    Dont worry about upsetting me.

I expect these packages must be subsidised (sponsored), they would attract customers regardless if its exclusive to EV or not.

Many types of customers would love the package, such as server running 24/7, night time electric heating, night time battery charging, and basically anyone who is a night owl.

They could just advertise as a tariff for people who want cheap off peak electric and highlight its especially useful for EV owners, so there is a bit more to it than what you said why its forcefully restricted to EV owners.

The best way to make people shift their energy usage is to pay them to do it, so its a bit baffling, which is why i said it must be subsidised, both the gov and car manufacturers want people buying these new vehicles.

It's a commercial decision on their part. They used to let anyone on their EV tariffs, but it would be unsustainable at their current size.

Ultimately it is about having a large, relatively predictable load that can be remotely scheduled to turn on/off each half-hour according to the needs of the grid and the associated rewards.
What you see with Go/Go Faster is the early beta versions of the tariff left open for customers while they get the more refined version 'Intelligent Octopus' working on a wider range of vehicles.
You can't give them what they need for the experiment without having an EV, not even a home battery is big enough to make a difference.
