MBNA 0% Interest Free card

Hi all

About 3 weeks ago, I was pre-approved via this site for the 24 month 0% interest MBNA credit card. I was then directed to the MBNA website to apply for it properly. The application was successful and they informed me what my credit limit would be. However, two days letter I then received an email saying that my application had been declined. I called them to ask why and they said it was because there was some adverse credit on my file. Anyway, I left it at that but today I received a letter from MBNA containing my pin and saying that the card would be with me in 7 days.

Does anybody know what's going on? Has it happened to you? I'm just curious:).

Yes - this exact same thing has happened to me. About 7 years ago, when my credit history file wasn't in brilliant shape, but improving, I decided to test the water by applying to my bank, Alliance and Leicester, optimistically, for a credit card.

I got a letter to say yes and the limit, then a couple days later a letter saying no due to an issue with the credit search, then the pin and card turned up!

I still have it to this day. The bank have never asked for it back. I have not changed the original limit of £2850. I use it for small purchases once or twice a month and always pay the balance in full.
It has no doubt helped to improve my credit file.

I have since successfully applied for an MBNA credit card (I get regular great 0% deals from them) and other lines of credit.

If you've been sent a PIN, the chances are the card is in the post - My advice is to use it ASAP and consistently, and keep within the terms of the credit agreement.
Either you've slipped under the net like I did, or there was an admin error in sending a rejection letter!

Usually it means you will get the card (the system is automated)

The card came in the post today but a friend of mine said it's fraud if I use it. Is this correct? They did accept my application after all. How can it be fraud?

Why not just give MBNA a call?

    Can you activate the card?

The account might have been closed centrally, but the actual card was already on it's way. Even if you can activate the card and use it, MBNA might notice their error and close the account instantly (although somewhat belated).

In this case, they will ask for immediate payment of any monies spent by you.
