I stupidly fiddled around with some settings in Firefox and control panels recently, trying to improve performance/security etc (yeah, crazy - if it ain't broke don't fix it!).
Now I have to log in manually each time to all sites (this one, mail, etc) even though I tick the 'remember me' box when I log in.
What have I done and how do I undo it?

Cookies?
Other sites can be different, but MSE saves a cookie when you login and checks it next time you come to MSE.0 -
Sounds like you're deleting cookies when Firefox closes. Have a look at the security tab in the Preferences and there should be options for deleting cookies, etc.
Alternatively, are you frequently using software like CCleaner, which could also be deleting cookies (depending on settings)?0 -
thanks esuhl.
Firefox has 'security' under the 'options' menu and within that is "Remember logins for sites" currently unticked. Would that be it?
Obviously what I don't want is to remember all logins eg bank passwords, only the ones I specify to be remembered.
I use ccleaner manually/periodically, but not since this started happening.0 -

Ah, that'd be it! You should then be prompted whether or not you want specific passwords remembered or not.
Also, on the "Privacy" tab, there should be a box labelled "Clear history when Firefox closes". If that's ticked, click on the "Settings" button to the right and see what gets deleted. It probably doesn't matter if all you want is your passwords remembered.I use ccleaner manually/periodically, but not since this started happening.
You might want to check the settings that CCleaner uses when "cleaning" Firefox. There are tick boxes to let you keep or delete logins, cookies, cache files, etc.0 -
No, it won't. I have it unticked and have no problems with MSE and many other 'low security' logins.
Right, but that will be due to you having an unexpired login cookie.
If you have such a cookie, you'll be automatically logged in on your next visit. If not, you'll be prompted to enter your user credentials, and Firefox can remember these credentials and fill them in automatically for you.0 -
Yes, but MSE, Gmail and similar cookies take quite a long time to expire, I think a week at least.
The OP has problems with mail that, I think, she visits more frequently than once a week. Judging by the number of posts, the same applies to MSE.
ETA: I just tried Chrome that I haven't used for MSE for more than a month and I wasn't asked to login. And I never save passwords in any browsers.0 -
Indeed - I ('he' - yes even some blokes have basic techie issues!) use mail and moneysaving regularly. I'd have no issue re-logging in on the rare occassions it was more than a week.
Think I've got it sorted now.
Cheers!0
