Car insurance will not be renewed

Hi All
This is regarding my wifes car insurance policy, she was hit in a carpark (she was parked) and we went through insurance. The 3rd party disputed the claim but eventually after my insurance involved a claims expert the 3rd party insurance have accepted fault. On a side note the insurance has been poor at dealing with the claim and didn't even pass on my wifes statement to the 3rd party insurers, it was only when the claims expert took over that the issue got resolved.
My wifes policy is due for renewal soon but the current insurer has sent a letter saying the following
"We are writing to confirm that your car insurance policy with us has now been cancelled – the policy lapsed on 23 May
2016. We will be in contact shortly if any refund of premium is due to you, or alternatively if any outstanding premium
is owed to us.
NCD entitlement
While you were insured with us, we applied a No Claims Discount, representing 9 years.
Please accept this letter as confirmation of your NCD entitlement to pass onto your next insurer"
When I spoke to them they said that we will not be offered a renewal as we don't meet the criteria and they won't tell us any more.
Will this have a negative impact as essentially the current provider has refused me insurance?
Do I now have to tick that my wife has been declined or had insurance cancelled?
Do I have right to know why they are refusing (cancelling the policy when it runs out) as we have not done anything wrong.
Thanks
Sully

Did you involve the 'claims expert' or your insurer? Was your wife's car written off or repaired?0

You have not had a policy cancelled, they have not offered a renewal. This does not require you to tick a box saying that insurance has been declined or cancelled.
I don't think that you have any right to know why they have declined to offer a renewal.0 -
Hi EdGasket
The insurance arranged the claims expert (think these are lawyers)
This is what they wrote
"We!have!been!unable!to!make!a!recovery!of!our!outlay!from!the!responsible!party!and!have
instructed!the!DAC!Beachcroft!to!pursue!a!recovery!on!our!
behalf,!Any!legal!costs!incurred!in!recovering!our!outlay!will!be!!
paid!by us"
Car was repaired and cost just under £1000.
My wife has had 3 non fault accidents (2 in 2011 and this one) so I guess this could be outside my current insurers criteria. Might be getting worried for no reason and have emailed my current provider for clarification on if I need to tick the have had insurance cancelled option.

That's all I was concerned about

I think you don't have to tick that cancelled box; sounds like they just don't want further business probably due to the claims level but best confirm with them though I would get it in writing as if things get sticky with a new insurer they probably won't buy 'well on the phone i was told...'
How can the policy have lapsed on the 23rd May; we aren't there yet! They can't even phrase things properly. I take it 23rd May is the renewal date?0 -
I was a bit panicked when I read the letter and this letter makes more sense when the policy ends which is the 23rd.
Will be easier next year as I won't have to declare 2 accidents as they will be older than 5 yrs. My wife seems to attract bad drivers but thankfully haven't had a dispute before. I now have camera's in both cars as its so easy for someone to deny fault .
Thanks for your help
