Ford Focus immobiliser problem.
I have a 2006 Ford Focus and it seems to have a problem. Basically, a couple of months ago, I was driving and felt a loss of power. All dashboard lights came on as well. I called green flag and the chap said it was the immobiliser kicking in, possibly due to me using a non original key. He reset it and I drove home (25 miles away) and I had no problems until the next week. Long story short, ( and I did get a new key) it sometimes won't start at all and the immobiliser light flashes. Other times it will start but will suddenly go into what I believe is anti theft mode. (Loss of power and engine/dashboard lights on) . I so far, have been able to correct this fault, by stopping and restarting the car. Also, I read on google about petrol cap sensors can initiate the immobiliser. So I am looking to replace my petrol cap. At times, I have tightened my petrol cap and firmly shut the cover, which weirdly almost always allows me to start the car. Sometimes, it corrects but leaves the engine light on. Some days it is perfect.

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but does anyone have any ideas with this problem? I am fed up with cowboy mechanics and wonder if this could be a simple problem such as petrol cap /sensor? Thanks in advance.

its usually caused by a faulty dash binnacle
not cheap to fix, best solution if it is this is a recondition jobbie but theres plenty or rogues out there willing to offer you the stars
if you know anyone in the motortrade ask them who they would use
a global scan of your focus should confirm my internet diagnosis0
