WTC - Self employed and Holidays

Hello,

My husband gets WTC and is self employed. He has a disability that affects his ability to work full time and is therefore allowed to work 16 hours.

As I am also disabled getting away for a holiday is a complicated event and up until now we have had short breaks enabling him to work around the holiday and take his online work with him so he still makes his minimum 16 hours.

We would really like a week off together without him working, but I can't find out how this effects tax credits. I've read about 4 week protection when hours drop but I'm not sure that applies if its a week off. Is there a form we fill in, do we just ring the tax credits office or is he allowed a set holiday time.

Thank you

He can take a week off if he wishes. He doesn't need to tell them.

You're right about the 4 weeks protection. He can take up to 4 weeks holiday and still be regarded as working the hours he was working before the holiday. The intention is that he will be going back to work after the holiday.

It's not "his" tax credits. Tax credits are a joint claim and your circumstances affect the joint claim too.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Thank you both.. yes he would be back at work the next week it would just be a break without worrying about work.

HappyMJ- yes you are right I know its a joint claim we sent info off about my income/pension to. i just see it in my mind as my husbands claim as its him putting in the hours and if he didn't work we wouldn't be eligible for the tax credits as I am sadly unable to work.

    Thank you..
