Chances of getting my default date changed?

I've heard lenders should put your default date from when you were first 6 months in arrears.

Would I have much chance in asking for the default date to be put back to April 2010?

I was under the impression your default date should reflect the date you actually defaulted? i.e. the date they served you with a default notice

I can't actually remember when I got notice, it was so long ago and I struggled back then. I've heard a lot of people say once the customer is between 3-6 months in arrears should be the time when they are defaulted. If this was the case then this account would be off my credit file

General rule of thumb yes, but not always.

Read carefully the info in this link.

If you then think they have it wrong, then complain citing relevant parts, and say that unless corrected you will be taking the matter to the FOS and ICO.

Not always, as they are not always the same thing depending of the type of notice and context.

Thanks fermi you are very knowledgeable

Do you think mentioning taking the matter to the fos and ico would be a little too aggressive for a first letter?

Which department of the bank would I send this to?

Ok, I will write one in the next few hours but what department would this typically be sent to?

I am also going to send it signed recorded delivery

Are there any template letters to request a default date be changed?

From the image posted, you didn't default, you even brought the account back into green after 2010.

I'd not expect the date changed.

Its difficult to say but your best bet is to complain to the creditor, stating that you believe your account defaulted around Dec 09 / Jan 2010, because you were not making the original contractual payments and you were in default of the account and ask them to update the date accordingly. If you had a payment plan in place there is a chance they can argue you never defaulted at that time it’s confusing as the file is marked AP in some places and then turns green was your account at this point brought back into full standing , what type of finance was it.
