  • Good morning: My OH, Corgi Guy, charges roughly the same as your final option (as a plumbing and gas heating engineer with 30 years experience in the southeast of England). I would suspect most people would select Option 1/2 i.e. as customers they would want to be as 'moneysaving' as possible ;) ...not reflecting the reality of what plumbers/heating engineers are actually charging.

I charge at the lower end of that range, so I've voted for the nearest one. For your interest there was a poll 3(?) years ago done by a trade mag and the average came out to about £25 per hour on an overall basis. The spread though was much bigger than your poll (£10-£45+ IIRC)

My gut feeling is option 4 -> 45 first hour and 35 subsequent. Bigger all day type jobs I could maybe drop to 30.

We charge £30 for first hour then £25.We,re in the north west of england and struggle to get that sometimes.I wish corgi installers would join together sometimes and all agree on a minimum charge (if you want to charge more, that's up to you)so that there would be no undercutting. There's one guy I know of who charges £8/hour.Solicitors,accountants etc all seem to have the same minimum charges wherever you go,I wish we did
