When I take my car for an MOT I just wait for a few minutes. Then the MOT tester comes and says 'she's a good un'. I service my own cars. Maybe an hour or two. Very simple and easy. Changing a cambelt for me is a lot longer and more complicated job. I don't see how you can charge the same for a service and MOT as you do for a cambelt. It just strikes me that if I had a garage I would say MOT and servicing only. NO cambelts!

Because cambelts aren't always as difficult as people seem to think. It's just one of those jobs that strikes fear in to the hearts of most people because most people have never timed engines up and are fearful for getting it wrong.

And you think that is something to be proud of?

You need to change it every few years otherwise it absorbs moisture.

Lots of garages manage to mess up cambelt changes. Just google cambelt snapped after garage changed it. Maybe they should take a bit longer and do the job right.
