Reposition electrics and move radiator from wall to be knocked down to another wall, fit akro props, lay new RSJ onto pad stones, remove wall between kitchen and dining room, plasterboard and skim beam and all associated areas. We’ve also asked the builder to remove/block up a small side kitchen window (where the hob will eventually be going). The builder has seen structural drawings/plans we had done a few months ago. Cost £2,600 inc vat. Is my quote fair?

I am in the south east and i think i paid about 2k for that and mine was very similar (2013)Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
That's interesting... our builder has just quoted us 18k for a big knock-through, widening a doorway and removing a chimneybreast, plus some other associated work. We have asked him to break that down (as he's only given us 18k for the whole lot, not individually itemised).
We had quotes for a knock through in our last place that was never carried out and those varied from £2-8k between builders!0 -
Depends where you live but if seems very reasonable.0

Thanks for the replies. I'm in Bristol. Had quite a few quotes and this was one of the higher ones but I liked/trusted him the most. He also lives in the next street, I know it's not really relevant but it does makes me feel better for some reason!0

To reposition the electrics the builder is going to have to use a qualified electrician, and moving the radiator could be quite a big job too, especially if you have concrete floors. Then there is the RSJ to buy, which can cost several hundred pounds per metre. If that quote includes materials I would say its very fair.0
