Just been reading up on this, and know and understand many things are kept to aid advertising on the web, though I really think other than that someone following me would be bored out of their minds within an hour or two.
Is there anything that can actually protect you at the router point rather than each individual item, for such as Smart TV's, Sky, etc are still not protected.
Thanks
DG

Our Smart TV accesses NowTV and Netflix through our router.
What do you reckon it needs protection from?
If someone were to hack it, what would they get from the exercise?0 -
Home user key actions .
Router not displaying / broadcasting router name .
Router user name and password not using default .
I can see Zykel xx router on my phone /laptop.
A quick google will get me the log in details for that router and let me access it and even change stuff .
Not understanding >>>understand many things are kept to aid advertising on the web<<
That is something from browser not router .
You can buy industrial strength stuff for network security .0 -
Smart TVs are really unsecure by design, did you know that some Samsung SmartTVs are listening to everything said and transferring the data to a third party.
How you wish to protect yourself depends on what you want to do. If you do change anything make sure you either backup the configuration, or do a scan to see what it protocols\connections are in use (wireshark is good for this).
I would always recommend changing default passwords on any equipment that can be accessed externally.0 -

There is enough paranoia around the forum without adding old incorrect assumptions.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Are you sure?
It's easy enough to get the default username/password for a router, the problem is you need the passkey to get onto the network to use them.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Yes, I remember it now http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-312961880 -
Them TV's send video back too. I saw it on the telly. Gogglebox or something it was called.
I'm thinking of binning my router and taking up off grid spoon whittling.0 -
Just turn of the 21st Century if everyone is going to feed the paranoia with nonsense.....Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thanks for the warning, even if it's incorrect. Smart TV's do not listen to everything and cannot report your conversations back.

Thanks for the correction, even if it contains no convincing information to refute the previous poster's assertions.
Is there any genuine reason to think that the news stories claiming that certain smart TVs capture and transmit what you say back to third parties are fabricated?
Or is this just another part of your campaign to promote "information promiscuity"?0
