Went to the website of the energy company, filled in a form to file a claim for refund.
Problem solved (hopefully!).

    Sounds like a logical approach.

My provider pays back automatically when a certain credit amount is reached.

Thats very ethical of them. But unfortunately not with Ebico and SSE.
I hope that the regulating body will make this mandatory.

When DDs are set up to pay and life being so busy, it is far too easy for the credit to build up and then having to waste time to claim it back!
£226 in 19 months, in my case.

I emailed Ebico and received a helpful reply.
For the benefit of any SSE customers reading this thread, it is quoted below:

Unfortunately I am unable to help you personally, however I can point you in the right direction on how to do so. I would suggest that you phone SSE (our supply and billing partners), one of the advisors will be able to discuss this with you further and be able to access your account with their system as I am unable to do so.
I shall attach the contact details below for you.

Classic reply from Ebco. Turning what should be a simple matter into a complicated big deal.
