Noise from washing machine on change of cycle

My washing machine has started to make a noise when it appears to be attempting to change cycle after draining. The noise sounds like a grinding sound. The water is drained ok and if I turn the washing machine on and off, it will carry on with the set program. There is no noise during the spin cycle and I can freely rotate the drum when it is off.

Does anyone have any ideas what this noise could be and if it is worthwhile attempting to fix?

Thanks

First thing to do is check the filter to see if any small object is there, plus you can clean it as well.

Otherwise it could be the bearing is worn, or other answers may be forthcoming.
