Im a little concerned about the agent saying the return flights will be "kept open" when the outbound flights are not being used the general situation is the passengers will be down as a no show and the returns cancelled, its normal to reissue the ticket as a one way, if indeed a one way fare is available on the route.

I would double check with the airline and get something in writing/email confirming before booking the alternative outbound flights.

It's normal to do that if you just don't show up, the normal airlines will sometimes keep the booking open or "uncancel" the inbound if you call them with a good reason as to why you're missing the outbound (I've never seen them reissue it as a one-way flight instead though?). I see absolutely no reason whatsoever that a Charter airline however would ever not agree to do that.

Your wise to suggest they get it in writing though - I've been messed around by so many companies over so many different things I always get claims in writing or recorded, no matter how trivial!
