Sorry not sure if this question belongs here, but to tie in with our budgeting strategy we'd like to pay our CT weekly by standing order.
Could this be a standard request or even possible?
I understand we cannot pay weekly by direct debit.
Thanks

Normally to pay weekly you need to pay using debit or credit card or at paypoint. Have you asked your council about weekly standing order? Councils differ. Why not save up the weekly amounts for a direct debit monthly? Would work out the same.0 -
My council offers weekly DD as well as fortnightly, 4 weekly and monthly, have you asked them if you can pay by DD weekly?

Ask your council, mine accepts DD payment weekly, fortnightly, quarterly, 6 monthly, annually and monthly over 10 or 12 months - fairly flexible really.0

Relatively common to receive payments this way - most common way is to issue a 'cash' bill and tell people to pay by whatever is best for them i.e. bank transfer, card payment, standing order etc.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
I do it weekly by standing order, my council doesn't offer this but don't refuse it either.
Take their bank details from a bill, and set it up yourself, make sure you put your council tax account number as the reference though.0 -

As long as you pay the monthly amount due before the 15th of the month (usually-your council could be the 1st) then you won't be late in paying.
You could divide the monthly amount due by 4 and make sure the 4th payment clears at the council by the 15th of each month.
You could also just pay the whole sum due on or before the 15th keeping the money in your current account a little longer earning some interest.
You could also arrange for the bill to be paid over 12 months rather than 10 so the sums due are smaller. I actually like the free months myself.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Unless agreed otherwise payment will always be payment by the 1st of the month. If the OP pays later then they'll likely receive a reminder before the 15th unless the council agree another payment date with them.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
