EDF charging to move from them

I have recently purchased a flat which has a communal hallway, this electricity supply was on EDF. I have advised that I want to change to Utility Warehouse however EDF have advised that they will be charging me to change. This is on a commercial basis (not sure why) & will be changed but does anyone know if they can charge me to change suppliers?

Many business suppliers have fixed contracts.You may not be able to switch these so easily like you can a domestic contract .The charges may relate to a fixed contract with t/c s for breaking the contract early.

You must have agreed to a contract.

Unless you agreed to a contract, you'd be billed on their deemed tariff - very expensive, but I think they can't stop you switching.

If you did agree to a contract, I'm surprised they will let you switch at all as most commercial agreements have very strict terms to end the contract/switch supplier.
