Karndean flooring

I have been into a couple of shops to ask about Karndean flooring. They have both steered me immediately to Amtico, and don't appear to want to discuss Karndean.

Do they get more commission on Amtico, or is there something wrong with Karndean? Both shops had both brands displayed on their windows, and immediately when I asked about Karndean they just wanted to show me Amtico.

Why is this?

Some people think that Karndean isn't what it used to be, but I have no issues with mine.

There are alternatives, used commercially, which are cheaper and as good, or better. These weren't on offer by the company who were doing my kitchen, so I didn't use them, but I'd look into them for a floor elsewhere.

Someone will be along to suggest what these might be. I've forgotten!

I've heard of one called Polyflor, but am not sure how good it is.

A few people have recommended it on here if you want to do a search.

I think Amtico is much more expensive than Karndean which is probably why they they would rather sell it to you.

My parents have a karndean floor in their kitchen. It looks great, been down for around 4 years and looks as good now as it did the day it was laid.

We have been trying to decided between the two. We have been told that Amtico is manufactured in the UK and Karndean in China, also that the mid range Amtico is the same, and maybe better quality than the top range Karndean.

I've found an article that says you should check the thickness of the top layer when deciding, so I'll take a look at this.

We've recently had karndean laid in our kitchen, hall and utility. Very pleased, looks great, although time will tell how hard-wearing it proves to be.

We went for the mid range cost/thickness layer.

I have been looking into it recently for the two bathroom we are planning on renovating. I finally settled on Polyflor as opposed to Karndean which I found was twice the cost with no comparable quality increase.

I got a load of samples of both recently, the polyflor stuff is not noticeably different in quality, I think you do pay a fair bit extra for the name with Karndean.
