If it was a genuine post then the OP would engage with the forum members.

There have been several 'first post' posts recently on this board with bizaar and unlikely (although possible) events and losses claimed in the post. I assert that it is suspicious at the very least.

Just google "should air con be recharged every two years" and see for yourself. It is industry-wide recommendation from manufacturers as well as garages.

its all about the money, kwikfit would recommend changing tyres and brake pads when they still have life in them. A garage can charge £40-50 for a 5 minute job, all good profit.

Agreed but the discussion was about whether or not a recharge was normal (or normally required) or whether it meant if you needed a recharge then there must be something wrong with the system (takman's view). I take the former view, that R134a does leak over time. The previous refrigerant R12, did not tend to leak but R134a does. There are moves afoot to replace R134a with something less efficient (requires higher pressures) but also less harmful to the environment. No doubt this will leak worse than R134a.

I bought a car from a dealer via an eBay advert on Monday I viewed the car twice both times it was out ready for me to see doors open and ready to drive ..
The second time I viewed I test drove and it was fine apart from the brakes seemed a little spongy and the air con wasn't working. The girl who showed me the car agreed that both were not great and told me that she would speak to the boss .. He allowed £150 off the price of the car for £100 brakes and £50 air con re gas
However I have had the brakes done but the garage says it needs a new air compressor and re gas which is close to £480 😡
I specifically said I wanted a car with working air con as I travel a lot .. She assured me it just needed the gas.
Also today I was locked out of the car as the remote does not work ..
    Where do I stand ?
They will not answer their phone either !

Your stance wont stand up in court.
If the brakes were indeed dodgy then by accepting a reduced price and having them fixed you have removed any chance of comeback on this one.
You say you accepted £50 off for a regass but go on to say that you stipulated the aircon had to work as you travel a lot.
You should have insisted that trader had aircon regassed and working as a pre requisite of purchasing the horseless carriage.
With regards the remote not working, i assume it worked at pos so next time dont give it to fido to chew.

To summarise........next time you buy a car, buy it from an established business that sells cars with non spongy brakes and also working aircon.

    case dismissed......................
