Holiday to Cancun - 2008 March, NEED HELP!

Hi,

I'm planning a holiday to Mexico Cancun next March for 2 weeks, I was wondering where to look for the best deals?

What kind of price will I be looking to pay for an all inclusive hotel?

Do you know any estate agents specialising in holidays to Mexico?

Is there anything I should watch out for, a best time to book etc

Thanks

I went to cancun in mid June this year. I paid under £300 for flights with MyTravel who are a charter airline and aprt of Airtours. I stumbled accross the deal through travelsupermarket.com who search through charter airlines who fly direct to Cancun usually once a week. Other airlines that fly there are from memory FirstChoice and Thomson but there could be others.

In my experience always book online direct with the airline if you are just purchasing flights. If you want a package deal you may be better off speaking to a travel agent but personally I think theyre scum!

In terms of accomodation, Cancun has two parts....fristly you have the Hotel Zone which is basically a strip along the beach lined with hotels from accross the board. Most chains have their hotels there aswell as other big hotels. Once again try travelsupermarket.com for hotels but you may be better off trying expedia etc too as they may have offers on.

If you are on a tight budget consider staying in downtown Cancun which is about 7km inland and is made up mainly of locals with little tourist activity (as they are all on the beach!). It is made up of a bus station and a few road with budgety places as well as a Radisson which came up very cheap on Worldres.com The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the beach and back everyday so you can have the best of both worlds.

Does it have to be Cancun?

Playa del Carmen is a much better resort IMO, and is about an hours drive from Cancun. Go to this forum www.playa.info and they people will help you get the most out of your holiday. Their trips are fantastic and highly recommended.

  • Thanks guys

I was thinking about getting a flight out and booking hotel seperately but thought it could be difficult finding a hotel while out there?
  • The best offers seem to range between 800-1000 is this normal? where are the best places to look for deals?

Also, is English widely spoken there? would it be good to know a little Spanish? what are the price like? anyone know any good places to eat? waht are the best clubs?

The people who run playa.info can book hotels for you in the Playa del Carmen area if you want to book independantly.

English is widely spoken in the tourist areas, but they do appreciate it a few words in Spanish - hello, please, thank you, etc.

Can't help with clubs as we travelled with two children, so we can't remember what nightlife is like :D

Instead of asking for a beer, ask for a "chella". Apparantly it is a slang word for beer, and they don't expect tourists to say it. It cracks them up laughing if you ask for a chella :D
