I guess bite the bullet and phone them.... But then I thought is that person in Scotland (they're always Scottish when I call up) going to know about NI and the specifics of the roll-out?

Also, I read somewhere (on here? not sure) that if you phone to make a change to TC claim, you'll be forced to make a new application under UC.... But surely not if it's still not actually taken effect....

I do need to phone them, had logged onto the Gov.uk gateway thingymajingy yesterday and saw they're basing this year's payments on an assumed figure for husband's earnings which is almost £2k more than what he did earn from his P60. I haven't received renewal pack yet, so might have to call today.

Are you able to call and ask questions about UC etc without giving your details? I don't think you can

I got a booklet about the welfare changes in the post. It states that UC will start to be introduced in NI from April 2017 for completion 2020. (Have found it online too: https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/campaigns/welfare-changes)

I shall lose everything under UC as I have a buy to let that makes me £200 a month. I hope I am one of those affected in the last batch of people!

We had been thinking about buying to let (too much watching of Homes Under the Hammer on my part), but think we'll forget about it now...

Because if tomorrow the Government comes up with another idea, that they wrote on the back of a fag packet after downing a couple of bottles of champagne, that they are going to reduce or stop housing benefit, you are in an enviable position. For the rest of your life you get to live for 'free' (except repairs/maintenance) in your property.

When I first joined this site, someone said to me that anything that it is given to you by the Government can be taken away by them too.

Well done on clearing your mortgage. :)

Thanks, I was really smug until I got myself caught up in this whole 'capital' thing.... or is it an 'asset' thing instead? Surely owning your home is an asset? It's all as clear as mud.
Getting it paid off actually became a compulsion.... It went from arranging to pay a couple of hundred extra every month, to taking our savings and throwing them at it (why not?), to 'Oh I've a tenner there I don't need'. All I ever did was call and make payments, or call and ask for the balance. I bet they were glad to be rid of me!
