Artificial grass

Hi ladies and gents I hope someone can help...
I am debating taking up what remains of my lawn (the wet winter killed it off) and installing artificial grass... I'm not particularly experienced at DIY but what I have done over done it well... Decorating, clearing the gutters, installing washing machine etc.... Now I'm looking at installing the grass myself as it seems fairly easy but is this a mistake... I know I need to remove the grass which is already down compact the soil, put a layer of sand, shale and then a weed membrane then lay the grass on top. However I have a conservatory, what do I do at the conservatory wall? Would it be best to do some sort of border ( stones, slate etc).
Can you help me please.... I know it will be back breaking work but I'm not scared of hard work but I do need a bit of advice.

Thanks for the thread... Mine isn't because I don't want grass I've spent £10000's over the years sorting out drainage and landscaping my garden for it to look nice... But I laid a new lawn last year for it to be decimated in the winter it just sits with 1/2 an inch of water on the top which in turn kills the grass turning it into a moss bed! The same happened this winter... I can't have stones been there done that it ended up a giant litter tray! I've had 2 gardners round who both said artificial would be the best way forward for me and I know it will be expensive but I have to do something.0

I have a new build with a tiny garden. The turf turned to moss within a year so I went for artificial grass, best thing I ever did.It cost just short of 2 grand and worth every penny to me.Each to their own.Good luck.mortgage free 3/10/12:)0

The drainage doesn't sound like it's sorted.0 -
Silver surfer I agree but I've thrown money away ( a lot of money) over the last few years. I've had the drains done twice and the next option is to put a pump in but again I'm looking at a few thousand with no guarantee it will work! Hence the artificial grass option.0
