There are specialist high risk insurers who will consider such cases. However, the premiums will reflect the risk. Don't expect price comparison site levels.

In all honesty, I think even specialist providers would struggle to offer cover so soon after the diagnosis and surgery. It would be dependent on things like the site of the cancer, the stage and grading, the treatment required.

In most cases I've come across, even with quite early stage cancer (stage 1a) it often requires a 2-yr postponement following the end of treatment.

It might be worth considering a guaranteed acceptance/over 50's type plan depending on your husbands age and why and how much cover you require.
  • he's only 40 so i guess over 50 plans are out, but thanks for the replys x

there are some guaranteed acceptance plans available to those under the age of 40. Google "union insurance guaranteed acceptance" and you'll find one option and Smart Insurance have another guaranteed acceptance plan. (Hope I'm not breaking any rules saying this!)

You have to go direct for both options but there are phone numbers so that you can call to discuss the plans (there are certain caveats that are fairly standard with these sorts of plans).

Speak to an insurance broker. It's a specialist case so a broker will be worth their weight in gold. We used a company that specialise in life insurance for people with pre-existing conditions as my hubby as a complex medical history and they found an insurer for us. Even if they can't get you cover now, they'll know how long he'd need to be cancer-free before he can get insurance at a relatively reasonable price. As someone else said, it may be a couple of years.

The broker company we used was called The Insurance Surgery (they've got a website) but it was a few years ago so I don't know if they're still as good. Other brokers will also be able to advise.

Good luck and hope he stays healthy for many years to come. :)

You may be able to arrange cover with a cancer or specific cancer exclusion maybe?

I think you really do need to speak to a broker though really as it will be more complicated than a price comparison site can handle.
