Hi everyone,
Not sure if this is for here or Home DIY.
We would like a security camera to monitor our front garden. Ideally one that links to a phone, but can have recordings download.
We have an electrician coming next week to sort out some lighting so could put one in that needs power from a mains source.
It doesn't need to link to movement sensors or window/door sensors.
Any information gratefully received.
Thanks

One of these http://www.johnlewis.com/canary-all-in-one-security-system/p2263102?sku=234832815 may do the trick - you just wirelessly hook it up to your home wifi and can view on your phone etc. There's even a cheaper similar thing for £90 in Maplin.
At that price point, you're probably going to hit quite a few disappointments (like with a cheap DVR you always do too), but I'm getting the feeling you don't want to spend a heap?0 -
Thanks, the John Lewis one isn't for out door use so not suitable.
I would ideally like one without a DVR. But they always come with an LAN cable. I'm trying to avoid having to chase cables.
Are there any that just need an electrical able chased and then the rest is wireless?NOT a NEWBIE!

The John Lewis one is known as an IP camera and links wirelessly via your router so there is no LAN cable, just a thin power cable. It can be accessed on a smartphone through an app, most of which include a recordable function which you can choose to use or not.
Whilst the JL one may not be suitable, there are many others that will be - google IP camera.0 -
Yep, you'd use something similar but outdoorsy, or better still just use a window to look out. Point is it can connect to your home router wirelessly - not as robust as a good outdoors wired DVR system, but still a contender.
You *may* need to connect with the LAN cable initially to set some settings, which is probably why one is suppled, but in normal use, it's wireless0 -
I have the Y cams that definitely would do the job -you need to ensure they have a good wifi connection however.

Thanks,
All great ideas but I think the Y X
cam fits and I like the option to get indoor cameras to link.NOT a NEWBIE!
