How would looking the van up online locate it?

If it was in the charge of the ops friend one would suggest it was somewhere she parked it.

Maybe to can tell us where such thieves look online for this info.

I think the point is that if you look up the reg on eurocarparts.com etc it tells you what vehicle you are looking for so look out for a van rather than looking at every vehicles reg number the thief walks past. And pressing the button isn't going to hurt either.

Oh right, so if you nicked some Ford keys they wouldn't necessarily fit a Ford Transit then?

I think Rich's point is that if you know it's a white Transit then that makes things considerably easier than looking at every single Ford of all shapes siazes and colours.

It's not like you have to try the keys in every bloody Ford...

It's a rental. They'll have a tag on that says "Enterprise", "Transit", and the registration. All the thief needs to do is to find a Transit with Enterprise signwriting and the matching registration, then stand somewhere vaguely near it and blip the remote locking.

Or, even, just walk along the road casually with one hand in a jacket pocket, blipping the key every 20m or so...

When I hire from enterprise they usually give me a nice key fob with the make, model, colour and Reg No on it, plus an extra big orange tag if its a diesel.(handy because all small cars look the same to me)
Wouldn't take mastermind to figure out which car it was.

Not sure about legal case, If there is legal cover on home insurance she could at least ask them for advice, I'd start with telling them about the handbag theft so they don't stop listening as soon as she mentions a vehicle.

    good luck

I've noticed a lot of posts recently from new posters where, as in this one, the most dramatic and costly things have gone wrong. Now why is it always a new poster? Couldn't be some dark matter could it?

So where was the handbag in relation to the vehicle when the handbag was stolen??

Yes, that's often seemed to me like a recipe for theft - made worse by the fact that often it is both keys for the car/van - and connected in a way that doesn't even allow you to separate them.
