I am looking to finally get my own Car Insurance, for the first time ever.
Can anyone recommend a good company to use - as a 40 year old woman

It does not matter if your male or female. Would suggest putting your details into comparison sites to get prices.
Look at the cashback sites for any cashback for your top choices.
Look at reviews and then choose depending on your budget.
One tip is to put more experienced driver on as a named driver to help cut costs.

Thank you.
My DH will be on the policy also, so that could help. I'll get on to the comparison sites......and keep everything crossed.0 -
Are you a named driver on any other insurances? If so, they may give you a decent discount. Aviva gave me 5 years no claims if I agreed to stick with them for 2 years - I previously had a company car, but my wife was with them.
When we bought a sports car later on, they gave us 5 years on that too.0 -

I have been a named driver, since I passed my test, in 2000. I hadn't thought I could use it though.0 -
I was in your exact position last year. I went through comparison websites and came up with LV at about £300 per year.car finance £1072/£8285 by sept 2018
#188 £1000 EF £8.45/£1000
3-6 months salary £80/£50000 -

Wow, that's really good value. I'll definitely give the comparison sites a go! :T0 -
Do indeed give the comparison sites a go. It's worth noting however that they don't ask questions specifically regarding being a named driver (at least I don't recall this). Sometimes it's worth going through the sites, getting rough estimates of what they'll offer, then ring directly and explain that you've experience as a named driver. It could lower it further. Not all companies give credit for this though. Aviva didn't for me last year.
Oh, and don't forget to go comparison again next year when you renew. Seems a bit silly to say perhaps, by renewal for me this year is quoted at >£900 (~£400 last year) with Aviva, with £315-£340 quoted by 38 other providers this year. Really pays to shop around and the comparison sites take much of the hassle out of it. Good luck.0 -

Normally you can't, but some insurers will offer this.
It is very limited. Only the insurer with whom you are a named driver may offer it.0 -
Thanks all for the great advice.
I got quoted under £300 !! (They took my 16 years as named driver, into consideration).0 -
Great news, very pleased for you. Always nerve wracking when you apply for your first insurance.
Next year you'll be able to haggle it down to £190 like I did.car finance £1072/£8285 by sept 2018
