Self Employed In Bankruptcy - Tax Return

I wonder if someone can help? I was declared Bankrupt end Oct 2015. I have continued to be self employed and have just returned an income payments order questionnaire (It was discussed with OR that circumstances be reviewed in April due to vary in income)

I am however unsure what happens with my Self Assessment Tax Return for 2015/2016. I understand that my tax bill upto BR forms part of the bankruptcy and according to what I have read online, any tax due until discharge is payable to the OR?
Do I submit my Self Assessment online to HMRC as normal for the whole tax year? Part year after bankruptcy or not at all?

Thanks for any assistance

I'm self-employed and was made bankrupt in September 2015. From my experience The HMRC will write to you as you'll be given a new self assessment number from the date that you were made bankrupt. The letter will tell you the dates that you need to submit for.

You won't be able to submit your self assessment online so they will have to send you the paper form. I tried to do my self assessment online in January but the system would not let me log into my account, after numerous phone calls I then spoke to someone who said that due to the bankruptcy I'd not be able to file my return online.

    I hope this helps.

As with so many things connected with becoming bankrupt, we all seem to have different experiences. In my case I completed my tax return online as I have done for years (no letter, no new numbers, access was as usual). A few weeks later my tax rebate arrived in my bank account, I notified the OR who gave me the Insolvency Service bank details and I paid the tax rebate over to them. (through gritted teeth but still!). Although no longer self employed (the business was the reason I went bankrupt so I have now un-registered as s/e) I will continue to submit a self assessment at the end of each year until told otherwise.

This year, the rebate will be £1.20!! Although I now have an IPA, I think I might treat myself to a choc bar and not notify the OR. Naughty but nice!
