Barking Collars

My dog is barking mad, I thought about a barking collar but didn't want one because I thought they shocked the dog. I saw that they do ones that emit a sound now instead.
Are these any good and is it cruel in anyway to the dog?

Sorry, also meant to ask, will the dog always need to wear this or would it train him not to bark so the collar can some off at some point?0

Its not a good way to train your dog, it will basically scare or shock the dog into compliance. leaving you with a nervous dog. You want to to show the dog the required behaviour and the reward them when they get it right.
Why is your dog barking so much? Is he getting enough exercise? Is he alone a lot?0 -
It will make your dog anxious as it won't take away the urge to bark.
You need to address the reason he is barking and work on that.
if you tell us what breed he is, how old he is , why/when he is barking someone may be able to offer suggestions to help.0
