    Hi Wayne

Is the Capital One card still live, or have you closed the account? If it is closed, is there any balance owing on it to the best of your knowledge?

If the card is live, and I am simply thinking out loud here, they may be reviewing your credit limit with a view to offering an increase. As these were merely "quotation" searches, they should not leave any footprints on your file visible to other potential lenders.

  • the account has been closed for years, just wanting to make sure someone hasn't tried to get a card in my name...no balance as far as I am aware
  • Did you ever uncover what happend? Did any other problems follow this?

I've just discovered a quotation search from Capital One Bank on my credit file. I've never had a card with them and can't think of anything I have done to trigger a search. I've called them and they say some one from their fraud team will look into it and call me back but I've not heard anything yet. I don't think a quotation search will show up to other lenders and I don't want to create problems by looking into it but I also want to know if someone tried to get a quote/take out a card in my name.

It's also a data protection issue. Why is someone looking at information about you, without your consent?

I too have recently joined Noddle this past week, along with ClearScore.
Noddle shows 3 quotation searches from Capitol One Bank within 3 consecutive days.
    I'm unsure why

If you've ever used a soft search tool for car insurance or credit cards that may be why you've had quotation searches on your credit files.

It'll be listed in the Terms and Conditions for comparison websites somewhere.

Frequently have them showing up on all three credit agencies but it's never impacted my ability to obtain credit as/when needed.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • Thank you all for your replies.

I checked clearscore too and a quotation search from Captial one and another card provider showed up there too. Capital One did phone me back. They say they are affiliated with clear score and the check may have been done so clear score could advatise the card. Presumably this may be true of Noddle. As GingerBob says my data is being viewed but I guess this is how we are paying for the 'free' credit checks.

I'm happy to just keep an eye on my reports for now. I'll also avoid clicking on the 'offers' tabs in Noddle and clear score from now on.

Yes, that appears to be the top and bottom of it. Essentially you give the likes of Clearscore carte blanche to do what the hell they like with your personal data once you sign up to their service. It's pretty much the same with all financial institutions these days. Even a cursory glance at some typical data protection T&Cs reveals that these companies carry out a data rape of epic proportions, allowing themselves to pass on your personal details to anyone they want, at any time, for any reason. But - they take your privacy "very seriously"
