I'd be thinking of earthing problems as well. Starter takes quite a current to turn the engine over, so any corrosion between the earth strap and engine / chassis ends will increase resistance and cause trouble. May be anywhere in the earth path, so could be the engine earth strap, or the battery cable, or both. Flasher issue may also be corrosion on connectors.
  • !!!!!!ed if I can find the flasher units. Any idea where to look?

I can see 4 yellow square things....

Also, if the flasher unit is faulty will they just light ip and not flash or just not work at all?

    Also, inline fuses? where?

It would help if we knew the exact year of this mini.

The yellow square things are possibly relays for extra driving/fog lamps. A pic of them would help of course.

usually below the bonnet on the bulkhead , close to the fusebox.
Also worth checking the connections on the fusebox where the wires plug in to either side as these are known to corrode.
leave the indicators switched on and go over all the connectors giving them a wiggle.
If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.

1989 I think. But its a jap import cooper.
  • Even thought it's a classic Mini, the brand is now part of BMW so you are automatically exempted from using indicators.
