Is this a lesson for the future to always book with the airline.

Like niftydigits, I have had lots of changes to times in the past and indeed for the trip i am taking in 2 weeks time.

I contacted the airline i booked with and changed the stopover airport for a better route than the one they suggested.

i understand this is isnt so easy when booking through a 3rd party though

Just spoke to budgetair. Apparently, it is the Aer Lingus flight which is no longer running. I told her I can see it on the website, but she said that is out of date and I wouldn't be able to book it if I actually tried.

She offered me a later flight but it still meant a 2hr then 4hr stopover which is better but not ideal. So she says they'll contact Aer Lingus again to see if they can provide a better alternative. I told her that we we didn't mind what route the flight took and we were also flexible on the date, so just have to cross my fingers.

It is a learning experience for me as I've never had flights changed on me before (just lucky I guess). I'll certainly take it into consideration if the price between booking 3rd party and direct isn't significant.

Travel agents at times have access to lower than published fares but at least choose an agent in the UK, trying to get a Dutch discount agent to work hard for you is doubly difficult

Update: Got the return flight changed to go via Boston instead with stopovers of 2hrs and 1hr 20mins, so happy with that.

Budget air did need a bit of chasing, but they were helpful on the phone. Only got confirmation recently because Aer Lingus didn't want to re-issue the e-tickets until 30 days out.

Thank you all so much for all the help.
