Cancelling a DD

Hello All,
I have recently closed a few accounts such as my mobile phone account - how long should I wait before cancelling the DD?
I have had things like the final bill etc and have so far waited two months but wondered if anyone had a suggested cancel date?
I don't want to be stung by any errors these companies make and then I get a black mark against my name!
Thanks

As long as the final bill has been paid, you should be fine to cancel it. If you don't, it should become dormant anyway after 13 months.0

Hi yoshiyella
If nothing has gone out via that DD instruction in the past two months and you have settled the amount stipulated in the final bill, I see no reason why you can't now cancel it. By all means hold on to the relevant paperwork/emails for a bit, as I can understand why one would want to err on the side of caution.

There is no need to cancel the direct debits. Companies taking direct debits when the account has a 0 balance is not a commonly encountered problem and you are covered by the direct debit guarantee anyway.0

I wouldn't bother cancelling it, as you won't be creating any bills and further direct debits it won't take anything from the account and will be cancelled after so long anyway0
