2 adults, 4 dogs - quiet weekend away?

Options
I have looked at all the obvious "holidays with dogs" but do not seem to find what I am looking for and frankly fed u with googling so looking for possibly personal recommendation please?

2 adults and 4 dogs (3 GS pus a smaller older dog) - need a quiet place to just get away for a weekend.

Most places I looked at limit the number of dogs one cat take or state that dogs must be on a lead - what is the point?

What we are looking for:

Self contained, self catering place "in the sticks" (2 bedrooms would be great but can make do with one) - no more than 2 hours drive from either TW19 or E11 as it would only be Friday night-Sunday night

With enclosed garden and nice off lead walks all around (so not near farms/livestock)

Possibly some water (lake/beach) where the dogs can have a paddle (so no restrictions re season/off season)

NOT in any parks where there are families with kids/entertainemen/noise etc etc

Some really quiet nice place - "away from it all"

We are not set on any date at all - can anyone recommend somewhere they have been themselves?

Please no general websites as they do not seem to have what we are looking for and I wasted so much time searching already.

Thanks a lot

Many dog people like the lets at Little Dumpledale Farm, but it's in south Wales, so too far for you.

What about camping? Know anybody with a big tent or a motorhome you could borrow to try it out?

I've been to some lovely parts of the country with mine, most sites require dogs to be on lead while they're on the site grounds, but there are lots with great off lead walks, fields, beaches etc. just a few steps away. I've taken 3 dogs with no problems to many campsites but you do usually have to pay a bit extra for each.

Teddysmum - we were looking at Wales too actually so will google your digestions, thanks.

Person one, we are not keen on camping as would be difficult to keep 4 dogs in a tent. Mobile homes/sites are really not our cup of tea as we really do not want people around, just us and the dogs. So some cottage in the sticks is what we are really after. Thanks

Looked it up Teddys Mum - wawwwwwww, exactly what we are looking for, amazing, thanks xxx

Seems to be booked ages ahead though but will see.

Anyone else know of somewhere similar? Thanks :)

If Wales isn't too far look up Craig Y Nos, stunning old hotel in amazing grounds and they allow dogs if you book the nurses annex. A lot of local rescues use it as an annual getaway for a big group of people and dogs.

Craig Y Nos looks absolutely amazing FosterDog and will definitely keep this in mind. Right now we are only looking at self contained "away from it all" detached cottage type of place though, thanks a lot xx

Join the Dogpages site and ask there. It is mainly about rescue, but has a huge dog loving membership.

I've pm'd you with details for two more places.
  • Your idea of quiet is somewhat different than mine - mine certainly doesn't include four giant hearth rugs with wagging tails! (For everybody else, I've met Zara and it's like being greeted by a hairy shed with the most piercing bark of excitement I have ever heard - she's lovely!)

Just be careful about whether your 'away from it all' area is in a heavily sheep infested area - there wouldn't be much chance of getting any of them offlead and, due to the actions/inaction of less responsible owners than yourselves, the local farming fraternity could be quite hostile towards what they might interpret as a pack.

Hope you find somewhere and enjoy every moment of it, though :).
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
