Wrong Tax Code - Obtaining a Refund

Yes, I completed the employment section but tax owed was always 0. I am unsure I can complete this without my P60 so I will ask when I can expect to get it. Thanks for the comments
So this time you won't put 0, you'll put the amount you paid so this can be factored into the calculation.0 -

Which would be £224.20? I really don't think I have all the information here to complete this now but I will try. Thanks0 -

You will need to fill in two employment pages- one for Sainsbury with your P45 details, one for NHS with your month 12 payslip details.
One set of self employment pages.
details of any other income you have
On page 6 there is a section headed 'if you have paid too much tax'. This is where you claim any repayment.
You say you are now paying the tax due on your photography business in your code.
If your code is 1106L then you are not doing so. Your code number should be lower if it includes estimated self employment income.0 -
My tax code was made before I contacted them. but wwhen I was on the phone to HMRC recently, they told me I could pay for Photography earnings via my tax code and asked if I wanted to cancel my self employment/self assessment which I agreed. I don't know how much I would be earning if anything. Last year I did hardly any photography at all and no paid work. How does paying via your tax code work? I must declare estimated earnings first? I can't tell them what I earnt sometime after the end of the tax year?
By the way my tax code should now be 1100L since the £60 uniform allowance has been removed since I don't wear a uniform, I wear my own clothing.0 -
"I can't tell them what I earnt sometime after the end of the tax year?"
Yes, the normal method for this is completion of a self assessment tax return
If you have low income from your business and do not wish to complete a tax return then you can ask the HMRC to include an estimate of your profits in your tax code and (if necessary) you will pay extra tax during the year because of the change to your tax code. Once the tax year is over you let the HMRC know your actual profit and if one is necessary they will make any adjustment due for the year just finished and update your tax code for the new year
It is quite possible to have the business income included in your tax code and not actually have to pay tax i.e. if you are entitled to the personal allowance of £11000 and expect your NHS pay this year to be £10000 and estimate your profit for the current year to be £500 then your tax code would be 1050L (11000 - 500) so no tax would be deducted by the NHS by March 2017 if your salary was £10000. Your April pay suggests you are actually earning, so far this tax year, around £13140 per year so unless your monthly pay from the nhs drops a fair bit then any estimated profit imcluded in your tax code will affect the tax you pay in this tax year.0 -
I was told by the lady at HMRC that I can let them know of my earnings at the end of a tax year via the phone. From what you tell me, she is wrong? When I was talking to her and send I probably won't earn more than a few hundred, she didn't say ok I will adjust your tax code by this amount, she said (or seemed to imply) I can let them know next year.
I've no idea how much I would earn, it depends how motivated and busy I become with photography. 2 years ago I earnt many hundreds of pounds but last year I earnt nothing. It may be worth me estimating £500 or £250. My NHS job pays me approximately £13000.0 -

Well if they told you that just go with it, if you make a few.quid and accidentally forget to phone and let them know you'll probably get away without paying tax on the photography income0 -
