Does anyone know if it's possible to find out the very cheapest car is to insure for a particular (18 year old) individual without having to go through every 'cheapest car' on a comparison site? Are there any insurance companies that would tell me that one make/model based on that individual's personal details?
Long shot
am guessing not

Do an internet search for Group 1 insurance cars and you'll get an idea.
The cheapest car for me to insure was a car that was considered a "classic" car. It was half the cost of insuring a car in Group 1...but a "classic" car does have higher fuel and maintenance costs.
The car that I had was a Ford Escort MK2. Nice little car... Insurance was through Lancaster Insurance. Only £300 for the year no prior insurance held.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

That's the bit I'm trying to further develop? I know all the cars in Group 1. But there is a very large discrepancy between the cost of Group 1 cars (have done a few dummy quotes for different cars).
So I'm not looking for a list of group 1 cars. I'm looking for the insurer to tell me which of those Group 1 cars is cheapest for that individual without having to go through all cars on the list (and possibly older cars not on the list).
Hope that makes things clearer.0 -
Don't see any other way of finding out. But if you put your details into a comparison site then it is usually possible just to change the car quite quickly and requote without re-entering everything from scratch.0

It's not necessarily Group 1, it's the cars whose drivers statistically have the lowest claims rate.
In my experience big, old, unfashionable cars are cheaper to insure than small popular models. You don't see many youngsters racing round town centres showing off to their mates in old Volvo estates for example, so they don't have many accidents. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. What you really need to look at is the best value for the combined purchase cost of the car (including VED) and the insurance - it's no use discovering that car x is the cheapest to insure if it costs £10,000 to buy when car y only costs £2,000, the £8,000 difference will buy a lot of years insurance.0
