Are Universal Credits paid in the form of cash

Hi,
I apologise if this sounds a silly question but the 'credit' part in Universal Credits has stumped me, would I still get paid in cash into my account if I received this benefit?
I understand they pay a sum to your landlord but this is not applicable to me, so if I am due £250 a month for example would this be paid as £250 for me to spend on anything or a specific credit to spend on something specific?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards

Well technically it's not cash. Cash is physical and it isn't handed over to you as cash. It's electronic money put into your current account. Electronic money does not really exist as physical cash anywhere. You can withdraw this electronic money and turn it into cash and once it's cash you can spend it as you please.Hi,

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Yes, it's paid as money into your account and you can spend it on whatever you wish.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Universal Credit is just the name (of the new benefit incorporating JSA, HB etc).
In 98% of cases its paid into your account via BACS.
In rare cases when there are IT glitches, UC & JSA are paid by Bank Giro in person/post which are cashed at HSBC.Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
Any benefit entitlement will be paid to the account provided by the claimant. There is no facility for claimants to visit a Job Centre and receive payment in actual hard currency any more.
There may be very rare instances where a payment is made in cash but I hadn't heard of any in recent years. In fact, the old 'cash office' disappeared from the Benefit Centre where I worked at least 2 or 3 years ago.0 -
Just think:
Credit = Money In
Debit = Money Out0
