Leaving Talk Talk

I'm 45 days off the end of my 18months contract with Talk Talk. I have found a cheaper supplier for my needs. Does the 49 days out of contract apply to phones or is it just energy suppliers? (where you don't have to pay exit fees) And if its just energy suppliers, , do I give notice at 30 days or do I have to wait and then give notice at the end of my 45 days?

I'm fairly sure the 49 days does not apply to telecoms so I would ring talk talk and ask them to be certain. You will certainly need to give at least 30 days' notice but the best way to find out would be to read the t's and c's; laborious, I know.
Whatever you decide to do, as soon as you give notice they will try to stop you from leaving, put you through to their "loyalty" dept. so please be prepared to have your time wasted. From your post, you do not seem to want to re-negotiate with them. Most telecoms companies are a pain when you try to leave them.
If you are moving your broadband you may need a MAC (migration authorisation code) to give to your new supplier.0 -
No 49 days days its a 30 day period with telecomms .0

and a MAC hasn't been in use for nearly a year now.
Your new provider will contact your current provider to sort out the changeover. It's called 'gaining provider led' now.0 -
Thanks for the replies so far. Bit of a sickner, want to leave them yesterday!! Never mind 30 days!! They've had far too much from me over the years but I've stayed with them. They caught me with the 18 months contract and pay 12months rental in advance. This time I bit the bullet and just paid full wack for my last 6 months. So do I actually wait for the end of the contract and then give notice or can I just give notice when I get to my last 30 days of the contract?
Loyalty department don't worry me! They will probably be glad to see the back of me, they are the best route to speaking to someone who knows what they are talking about for any queries!0 -
Heck, no, don't wait until the contract has expired, diary in (if it's not already etched on your brain) to give notice 30 days' notice before it expires.
And sorry about the MAC thing, my knowledge is a little out of date, I admit.0 -
Be careful about "giving notice" - presumably you want to transfer your line and number to another company, not just terminate entirely?!
There are no MACs any more, and no need to tell TT you're leaving them - your new phone company takes care of that. Just make sure you sign up with a start date at the end of the TT contract to avoid paying for two sets of services at once - unless you're that desperate to leave ASAP! Ask your new supplier for a start date a month away, then tell TT you're transferring service away then (but NOT terminating, otherwise they just shut off your line and you lose the phone number!).
(My old office line was with TalkTalk; the broadband really was bad enough we ended up paying to leave early, rather than put up with it any longer. Being told the "unlimited usage business service" was lousy because we were "using it too much" was just the last straw: 40 Gb a month, on an "unlimited" package, is "too much" now?!)0
