Advice on Income Protection Needed

Options
I'm looking for some advice on income protection that would cover my costs should I become ill, right up to retirement age if need be. I don't need cover for unemployment.

I've researched the topic here as best I can, and I think that I'm therefore looking for "PHI" (permanent health insurance / long-term income protection), that covers "my chosen profession / own occupation", and one that is "Guaranteed" ( = monthly cost remains the same).

The recommendation seems to be to use an IFA for this (possibly looking at Unbiased or VouchedFor to find one) as websites / comparison sites don't really offer this just now.

I have two questions:

1. What would a ballpark figure be for a 39 year old, looking for around £1000 cover a month, office job, good health, 3 month deferred period? ( - this would helps me to determine if I can afford it, and to gauge any quotes I get)

2. What questions should I ask an IFA about it? E.g. whether it covers back, neck (and stress) problems and on what basis, what the payout rate is, any others?

Thanks

The conditions you mention will usually be covered unless you have a history of them already. The advisor will set out why the product suits your needs and is better than the alternatives.
