Just takes one adjacent neighbour who plays loud music to make life hell.
With modern speakers, the neighbour doesn't have to be adjacent.
I live in a detached house with a long back garden backing onto a longer back garden with that house and its neighbours fronting onto another road a few minutes walk away - it is still possible to hear music from houses in that road if played loudly enough.....0 -

Fair point but i agree with the general point, if you can be detached and all things being equal go for itNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Are you struggling to afford the mortgage/bills you have on the bigger house? If not then apart from being a little closer to work I can't see much more benefit for you to move.
You like the neighbours, you like the area - if you move you risk losing that and could end up living next to people you hate.
How can a house be 'too big'? Use one of the spare rooms for something else... craft room, gym? Its better to have too much space then not enough.
Its completely up to you of course, but personally I would stay put.0 -
Three bedrooms is standard size imo - and its what I would like personally (as a single person).
15 miles commute to work is nowt and jobs come/jobs go.
Personally - my last job was easy walking distance from work. Now that was an advantage basically. BUT the downside was that I felt like I didnt have enough "privacy" at home. I knew (and they knew!) that they could send someone round in the general vicinity and "spy" on what I was doing in my own Home. There were a couple of occasions where I was not at all happy at having colleagues clearly walking down my street to get to Work!!! Some people don't have intrusive type employers - but others do (and I had one like it....).
If you are used to a detached house - you might well never adapt to hearing other peoples noise coming through the wall/the loss of privacy etc of having to be careful about what noise you personally generate in your own house.
Add the fact that some people are supremely neglectful (for whatever reason) at looking after their house. Many of us have someone like that living in the vicinity. Whilst one is in a detached house, then you can safely take the view that "Whatever that neglectful **** gets up to - then they can't affect the physical structure of my home - as their home isn't attached to mine". But - if their home is attached to your home - then their irresponsibility/neglect/etc could very directly impact on your home (eg sending damp into it). Been there....done that....
In your position = I wouldnt dream of selling.0 -
