Bluray player behaves differently with DVDs and Blurays.

If I switch off part way through a DVD disk, when I restart, it continues where it left off.

However, if I switch off part way through a Bluray disc, when I restart, it goes back to the beginning.

Is this just how Bluray players work, or can I adjust the player, so it picks up where it left off, on both types of disc?

    Doesn't look good...the manual says...
Playback does not start from the resume
point where you last stopped playing. , The resume point may be cleared from memory depending on the disc when
    – you open the disc tray.
    – you disconnect the USB device.
    – you play other content.
    – you turn off the player

BluRay and DVD are technically more different than similar, despite being the same size and shape!

A DVD is a stream of effectively unencrypted data which is easily interpreted. A BluRay effectively runs inside a virtual computer with on-the-fly in-memory decryption and support for a load of barely used Java extensions. As such, the firmware which is used in either case may as well be two different machines, hence inconsistencies in the niceties!

A lot of BD players require a memory stick to remember the place you got to with Blu-rays.

    IIRC my Sony BDP360s does.

It's something to do with the complexity of the code that is run from the disc meaning that it's not just a case of the player remembering a simple track and time code, so I think they can/do use usb memory for that job (although our latest Panasonic player in the lounge doesn't seem to need the memory stick at all*).

Having said that if you haven't done so already, make sure the player is up to date (connect it to the internet and do a firmware check), and some BD's simply don't remember where they were regardless - I've not come across it recently on new releases, but some of my older ones always seemed to reset.

*My guess is the price of flash memory had dropped enough they just put it in, especially as it was a better class of player than my other units (I've bought 3 Phillips models for family as they are easy to make region free for DVD's and cheap, and my Sony whilst being a good player was an early Blu-ray Standard 2 models).
