Ford C-Max - Petrol or Diesel

Thanks, what can i expect a looked after petrol engine to run until?
Whars low mileage for a petrol? 30k?
Were looking to keep this for as long as possible.0 -
Diesel if I had to chose but it must have a full stamped service history, Ford are not as optimistic as some of the other users of the old HDI lump and I think state 12,000 for service as opposed to 18,000 for some others so as long as it has had its oil changes it should be good for 100kI do Contracts, all day every day.0

So is there any difference between the
Tdci engine and that of the HDI found in the Peugeot 3008/5008? I intially liked these until everyone warned me off because of the Turbo0 -
Having owned one I wouldn't say its purely a grandad car. Seen many familys in them,as well as older folk (they love the slightly higher ride height, visibility and spongey suspension) They are a great all rounder if you have a couple of kids, dog etc. Only got rid of mine due to needing a bigger car. Reliability wise, cannot fault the petrol at all other than MPG which was much lower than i anticipated (around 30), and there is very little to go wrong, no dpf, no timing belt, no dmf.
Think about the running costs/mpg and your annual mileage. Is the increased mpg on a diesel going to cover the costs of maintaining it? If not (hate to say this as a diesel owner)look for a decent low mileage petrolEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -

The issue is caused by extended service intervals, Ford state 12.000 not 18,000 so the issue that the Turbo suffers which is caused by engine soot in the oil does not strike the Fords down like the other users if the engine.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Really interesting as I was looking at this one:

Would love peoples views on this, Full ford service history and they will do the oil and filter service and new MOT prior to sale.
Anything i need to be wary of? When is the timing belt due?
I cant see any petrol one's with low mileage cheaper0 -
The mileage is reasonable for the year, the interior is quite clearly not abused but well cared for; usual place for wear by uncaring owners, is the boot carpet, which looks unmarked. A full Ford Service History is great news.
The 1.6 is a good engine, although not the 2.0 ltr it will have good acceleration and economy. In short, go for it, but offer £6,500.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

My wife has had a C-Max 2.0 Tdci auto for the last three years. It's been used for local trips, shopping etc (all the things they warn you against with a diesel) and a few long trips, and it hasn't missed a beat. It might help that her driving style is best described as 'brisk'.
The car looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, and it's a bit tall and top-heavy, but the engine is a peach and the auto is the best I have used. Sorry, can't speak for the 1.6.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I've got an '04 plate CMax 1.6 TDCi - it's the slowest car I have ever had, not sure what the newer versions are like.
But 65 MPG, 164k miles on the clock, no reliability issues (other then what is to be expected for a car this old and this leggy) I am happy enough with mine for £1,300.
For your mileage I would suggest petrol.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
I have a 61 plate petrol Grand C-Max with the 1.6L, 125 PS engine. It's 2 tons empty, if I'm reading the data sheet right, which explains why neither the performance, nor the fuel consumption are sparkling. I typically get about 35 mpg and I've got used to using lower gears on hills than I did in an Octavia vRS.0
