Car Insurance - does this sound right?

I was shunted from behind on Fri evening by a white van. My 6mth old c1 didn't look obviously damaged but the boot wouldn't open - no obvious damage to the other vehicle which was a company van.
We pulled over and I gave him details - he said he couldn't give me any personal details except his name as it was a company vehicle.
It was quite a wack and I've had worsening neck pain since,
Phoned my insurance this morning (bank acting as broker) - they said the vehicle didn't show on their database as insured so I would have to go via the underwriters, I can't drive the car as its not road legal due to the boot but they can't offer a hire car as this was an added extra we didn't take out.
They did initially transfer me to enterprise who were going to arrange free replacement car, but when they realised they couldn't get insurer details for the other vehicle they said they couldn't. Surely they should be contacting the company! It's a 16 plate van and a large company.
Does this sound right?
Thanks

Hi,
This must be a really stressful situation.
Do you have legal insurance alongside your policy? This can be really useful in a hit from behind situation.
Also, what is your insurer doing to get you back on the road?

if you have his vehicle registration and want to know if it's even insured or the correct registration, go to askmid.com and put the reg in there. Tick the "is my vehicle" box and it shall show you if it's insured and what make/model the registration is for. Very useful way to see if the vehicle reg is genuine and if the vehicle is insured. Also worth checking the area the incident took place for CCTV. I have acquired cctv footage for a few in relation to RTI's. Always worth checking if you can.0

Why do you think your vehicle isn't road legal?? You say it doesn't look damaged and it's only the boot that won't open so what's stopping you driving it?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I'm guessing because Enterprise talked them into it being not drivable so they could arrange an over priced credit hire but changed their minds about providing the car when they discovered they may not get their money0
