Hi
my garden is paved and rain puddles on the slabs. I would like to limit the amount of pudling by collecting the rain from the shed roof. She roof cover 3m x 4m area so pretty sizable.
I wanted to get a slimline 100L waterbutt. I do some gardening and the water would be regularly used for water plants. In addition I will use the waterbutt for a holding area for 20L of fishtank water when I chaange fish tanks.
Wanted to know if 100L will cover it or should I go for a 200L tank?

Your guess is as good as anyone's, how much rain do you get and how often, how often do you water the garden? The answer to than questions, you can't answer properly because we can't control the weather. I have fitted an overflow in my water butt and have a peice of hose pipe attached0

I have a 200 L water butt. In a dry spell, I can run it completely empty just watering pot plants and vegetables in containers.
100 L is only 10 good-sized watering cans. I can get through 4 cans in a day in hot weather. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
how full does your 200l tank get? and what is the size of your roof?0

Only get a slimline one if you're short of space.
Even if you don't need much water, a 100L one will quickly overflow with a roof of that size0 -
We recently bought a 10 x 8 shed and have put guttering on 3 sides connected to a Wickes 210l water butt. The overflow goes into existing house grey water pipe and the butt is generally quite full although weather like today will test it hugely. I would definitely go for the 200 plus size and I don't think there's much price difference to be honest.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Mine's filled by the garage roof. One good rain storm can fill it.If it sticks, force it.

If you have the space you could always get a second-hand IBC - the square tanks used for bulk liquids with a surrounding cage. They're 1m3, so a 1000 litres.0

Secondhand IBC's in this area go for £40 plus delivery. Needs a good foundation and check what it contained before. Maybe fruit juice but could have been something acidic.0

oh wow i just saw a 100l water butt for the first time. its impractical0

We've got a 13ft x 8ft pent roof shed and the guttering is just at the front, with the raining weather our 100l slimline butt gets full really quickly, but empties equally quickly when i water the strawberry bed. Going to look to make a bigger upgrade this year, as it saves me having to walk the length of the garden each time just to water the fruit and veg.0
