after spending the afernoon basking outside - he hovered around the food bowls - Mia made sure she cleaned hers up quickly!

I still hand fed him pureed food - just in case

He perked up when I gqve him some leftover meds from Mias op: Vetergesic because I didn't want him in any pain.

So you've been hanging onto a morphine-based pain-killer for...how long? Then you gave it to a different animal than the one it was actually prescribed for, who is on several other medications and unprescribed home remedies?

Sorry OP, I've changed this post because I missed your update about Chi having now had a positive diagnosis. I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you can keep him feeling as well as possible now.

Some years ago, my collie cross was given prednisone to slow the rapid growth of an inoperable facial tumour.

I think it did give him a little time, but he put on a huge amount of weight , though he was not sick.
  • Corticosteroids make you hungry. Really, really, I-Need-To-Eat-ALL-THE-FOOD-IN-THE-WORLD hungry.

They reduce inflammation (as you get with gum disease or some forms of cancer), make chemotherapy more effective, reduce any allergic reactions to the chemo drugs themselves, and reduce nausea as well. That's why they're given to humans and animals as part of chemotherapy protocols. But random collections of herbs and a sprinkle of magical thinking are not treatments for cancer, even with a hefty dose of confirmation bias.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

    Chi passed away.

the last weekend he refused to eat & despite having spent 2 nights out the week before I returned to the vet & he was pts.

i'm satisfied he had everything that was humanley & vet possible.

I was there for the injection, took him home & buried him in my parents back garden behind an apple tree.

I'm sorry for your loss OP and am glad that Chi's illness was short. I hope you will, in time, come to enjoy the happy memories of all the years you shared together.

    RIP, little Chi x

he did have a good life - I was his 4th home & he was nervous - as far as he was concerned a trip in his carrier was a potential rehoming. He now has a forever home for his bones. Parents have lived in that house nearly 50 years & no intention to sell/move

I really did my best for him: waking up @ 5am to hourly feed him before going to work, coming home @ lunchtimes. changing the food, liquidising & syringe feeding hourly attemps again in the evenings until midnight.

I was sad but satisfied I did my best by him - albeit I couldn't watch "nature take its course" anymore at the end & had him pts.
