moss on outbuilding: needs epainting. Advice required

I have a v old outbuilding. I think its at least 100y old. On old stable

Its made of wood with tiled roof.

Its not insulated or anything like that.

The wood is painted a v dark brown but over the years sections are turning green, presumably due to lichen or moss growing on the surface.

Want some advice on how best to treat this.

Do I just paint over with outdoor wood paint? Do I treat it with something?

Any advice most welcome

Jet wash it down first to get rid of all the algae etc.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

I would just brush off the worst of the green stuff and paint over with creosote or its modern eco friendly substitute.

Powerwash surface or you could try products like wet and forget or spray and leave

out of interest does the outbuilding have any guttering or rainwater run off protection like a big overhang? Reason I ask is that a lot of outbuildings with damp walls are fixed easily and cheaply by putting guttering up.

You take a photo, open it in Microsoft Paint, and then you can paint it any colour you want without removing the moss. :)

My fences are the same. I tried just painting over it last year but it repealed the paint. Tried scrubbing it off with Brillo but that was back breaking work.

i might try power washing but don't want to damage plants in next door's gardens.

That's why I suggested creosote. Unlike paint it doesn't just sit on the surface of the timber, it soaks in and preserves it. It also stops the moss and lichen re-growing.

Don't forget to apply some woodworm killer and antimoss or algae treatment. It prevent of apperaing moss after painting. Thorough cleaning jet wash or brush is not enough!Bacteria live inside.
