This has happened to me too. I transferred the car from my father to myself in February after taking out the policy in January. In April renewed policy and didn't think to tell them. They are telling me that it costs another £362.22 extra.0

Someone with better knowledge may know more... But as far as I know, V5 is not proof of ownership, therefore, based on V5, Driving License and License history there is no way for them to know how long you have owned the vehicle for? Only a receipt/invoice would indicate proof of ownership... I think...0

I can understand that a year's difference in the age of the car might sometimes make a considerable difference to the premium, but how can the year of purchase matter if it is the same car?
It's not as if the OP was claiming incorrect NCD.
